Diageo is a multinational alcoholic beverages company with brands such as: Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Baileys, Guinness and others. So what happens in their happy hour? They party. Like there’s no tomorrow. But everyone needs to go home at some point and drinking and driving is explicitly forbidden.
So Diageo wanted a tool that could facilitate the arrangement of carpooling among employees.
Diageo Carona (Carona means Carpool in portuguese) was born.
It was decided that the best way to do it was using Google Map’s API. It would take the whole page, serving as a background, so the user could see every rideshare update on the fly.
Some game mechanics were added to engage users even more. The “rider of the month” prize, given to the driver with most rideshares, included a $250 gift card.
Diageo Carona was a huge success. Even appearing on a morning show in Brazil’s biggest TV channel.
